I live very close to the sea here, in Littlehampton. I try and swim in the sea daily unless the tides are too choppy and always avoid looking east, where Rampion 1 scars the skyline. The very idea of this beautiful seaside town being totally robbed of its natural skyline fills me with horror. People come to holiday on the South Coast to convalesce and to retire BECAUSE of the sea views, the natural horizon, the sea air and the often sandy beach. The construction of this proposed Rampion 2 would inevitably cause significant disruption to Littlehampton over four years. Not just the noise, but the traffic, the sediment, the ugly industry of construction all across the serene natural sea/sky horizon. Recently, Littlehampton has been awarded some lottery monies to ‘upgrade’ the sea front. These works, once confirmed, will be starting, I believe, next year. The intention, of course, is to make the most of our beach, our promenade and the sea view; to encourage more people to come and enjoy nature and what we have here. Such a vast development as Rampion 2, all across the horizon, would offer a completely different, industrial experience - Scarring nature. Littlehampton is not a smart, upmarket town - Indeed we are a very mixed population, but that surely shouldn’t mean that our most important asset, our beautiful beach views, should be given away to a foreign company to ruin. RWE has not illustrated the extent of their proposal, visually. Very few people who live and visit Littlehampton have any idea how their entire horizon might be transformed. This really should not be allowed to go ahead. I will need to move home if it is approved. Far too upsetting to witness such ruination of nature.
