Drax uses wood pellets to produce electricity. Wood pellets are made of carbon hence Drax is already contributing to the country's carbon emissions, and should be closed. The carbon capture process being proposed itself uses energy and also involves chemicals with further toxic emissions. There is no guarantee that the process will work since the technology is still being developed for large scale use. This project should not go ahead because it will continue the need for felling of trees (which take dozens of years to mature and therefore the burning of them is not carbon neutral). Drax should be closed and the research funds identified for the development of this new technology should be invested in the development of renewable energies such as tide, green hydrogen and similar wholly non-fossil sources of energy.
