The study areas for each environmental impact of the Drax BECCS proposal include no land within Scarborough Borough. Therefore, Scarborough Borough Council acknowledge that the Drax BECCS proposal will not have direct impacts within the boundary of Scarborough Borough, either positive or negative. As such, the Council gives no comments on the physical characteristics of the proposal. However, the Council recognises the positive wider implications of the proposal to the decarbonisation of the North Yorkshire region. The Council is supportive of the regional ambition to be carbon neutral by 2034 and carbon negative by 2040 and acknowledge that the negative greenhouse gas emissions that would result from this proposal would make a significant contribution to this ambition. Scarborough Borough Council is thus supportive of this proposal in principle
