I am all for renewable energy ( We have had solar panels on our home for 12 years ) but I do not agree with this solar farm proposal. This development will not only be visible from our home, it will be built on good quality farm land. Food production is just as critical for the UK as renewable energy, and any reduction in good quality farmland should be rejected. There are alternative solutions for renewable energy in close proximity to this development. There are a plethora of new distribution units on the A38 and the M42/A444 junction. Why are the roofs of these units not been used/considered for solar production as an alternative ? Also, the old Willington power station land is still not being used for anything. To me this would be an ideal place for a solar farm, and it has the links ( as Drakelow does ) to the power grid. I am fairly sure that solar panels could actually be attached to the old cooling towers at Willington as well as a solar farm on the available land, creating a huge solar farm. The possible alternative solutions for renewable energy available ( such as mentioned above ) far outweigh the loss of good quality farmland of this proposed solar farm.
