I am strongly in favour of this project. We need to generate considerably more energy in the UK from renewable sources, and the new electrical substation that was recently built near Rhyall makes the planned site for this solar farm an ideal location for doing so on a large scale. Installing a solar farm would prohibit the growing of crops, I have sympathy for people who cite that as an objection and UK food security is important, but there are many other farming activities that can still take place on the land in parallel with the solar farm. I also think that stopping cultivation of this land would have a positive impact on biodiversity in the area. I suspect that the main, but generally unstated, objection to this project is an aesthetic one: people would rather see green fields than solar panels from their windows. But IMHO energy generation is far more important than that, and we all need to share the burden of that in our local areas, and I see solar panels as being a lot less invasive than other renewable generation options.
