This proposed solar farm would take more than 2,000 acres of mainly good quality arable land out of food production. It sits within a mile of some villages and of Stamford, blighting the rural landscape that serves as recreation and as an aesthetically pleasing environment for the majority of people in the area. The impact on local communities, wildlife and the environment would be enormous and should be high on the agenda of considerations. Equally, and some would consider even more important, is the relevance of the proposal in terms of land use. It goes against the Government's drive towards making the UK more self-sufficient in food production. While I fully support home-produced renewable energy and in fact have made significant strides to replace our energy supply with renewables, I consider the position, scale and land type choice for the proposed solar farm totally inappropriate. There are areas for generating renewable energy that would minimise the impact on UK food production, and be more discreet rather than take a 'front row' position and compromising the environment for all around Stamford .
