Though I am completely in favour of renewable energy including solar power I believe we should carefully consider the most appropriate places to put solar panels. The last place we should use is a vast tract of productive, agricultural land which is essential for the growth of food especially since the war in Ukraine. In Rutland and to the north of Stamford land is also being allocated for housing and potentially a new reservoir. In addition to the loss of agriculture, wildlife will be detrimentally impacted. Small pockets of isolated woodland will be useless without surrounding natural land to provide wildlife corridors linking them. Groups of wind turbines could provide power while enabling farming to continue around them and enable wildlife free to roam. They would also not impact drainage and cause potential flooding.
