I am opposed to this project for a number of reasons. There are serious Construction and Operational issues which include the following: Years of noise, light pollution and damage. Cabling to new sub-station may now run through Essendine with Mallard Pass seeking compulsory ‘acquisition rights.’ Extensive traffic measures through Ryall, Essendine, Great Carterton and surrounding areas. 80-1000 tonne HGV loads. Up to 400 workers a day on-site between 7am and 7 pm each day. Public rights of way will be closed and/or diverted. Complete uncertainty for future generations as the application has no time limit. Will funding be secure for decommissioning to avoid a solar graveyard when it shuts down? The sheer size of the 2105 acre site means all the adverse impacts cannot be screened. No benefit to the community. Our local landscape will be changed to an industrial-scape with 530,000 solar panels each 3.3m high. Security fencing and cctv; solar stations or shipping containers dotted across the solar area. New sub-station will be visible and audible. Solar is hugely inefficient as an energy source. Loss of productive quality agricultural land at a time we need to protect our food production and reduce imports. Solar should be on rooftops or brownfield sites. Flood risk. Impact on mental health of residents and locals is not being considered. Visual amenity rights compromised.
