I am writing as an individual but I am also Chair of the Solar Campaign Alliance. My Professorship is in the Rural Environment and I specialize in agricultural and environmental matters including land use and soils. I have particular concerns relating to food security. This scheme is one of the largest going through the planning system and the consequence of approving this and all the other NSIPs and smaller proposals currently with LPAs will lead to significant loss of agricultural land. This is an unacceptable trade off. I do not oppose renewable energy and accept solar power has a part to play in the energy strategy but solar must be in the right place and in this scheme it is not. I will submit evidence on other issues as well such as landscape and biodiversity.
