Constructional issues: During construction I have concerns about increases in air and noise pollution via disruption to local traffic, increased noise levels from construction machinery, increased large vehicle movements. Additionally the local roads are not suitable for this level, or type of traffic, which in turn could have safety implications to road users. I’m also dubious about the nature of how the panels are manufactured and the evidence of forced labour within supply chains of the companies involved which raises ethical concerns. Operational issues: People enjoy utilising the local countryside and though provision to retain access has been mentioned, walking through a solar farm will severely reduce any pleasure derived from being outdoors. This could also negatively effect tourism. Recent research has shown that access to nature, countryside, waterways, encounters with wildlife can all positively improve mental well being. This development would negatively impact on this by having such a large area covered by solar panels, reducing visual benefits and physically acting as a barrier. I do not feel that the biodiversity gains are robust, there’s a possibility that in 40 years the fields could be returned to farming resulting in the removal of some of the habitats. You are essentially saying that you can achieve a biodiversity benefit but potentially only on short term basis, which leads me to wonder if any gain can be counted at all? I feel there is very little long term thought put in to this development for biodiversity, or for the community who are directly affected. Visually this development will ruin the countryside views, creating an industrial outlook, this results in a daily negative impact on those living here. This development and it's sheer scale doesn't take into consideration the cumulative effects of neighbouring developments being proposed where further countryside will be lost for housing. This will have a negative knock-on effect to the surrounding property values. I also have concerns about the level of security required for the site it will be surrounded by cctv and large fencing and a peaceful stroll of an evening will feel more like a walk around a prison yard where you are constantly monitored.
