I believe that the proposed Mallard Pass project will have huge negative consequences for the natural environment, both short and long term. For example, covering vast swathes of land with photovoltaic cells entails destruction of the natural environment, such as sensitive ancient habitats along with the flora and fauna, and local landscapes. Also, I have concerns about the long term impact on the environment of the cells, and the storage batteries once they have come to the end of their life time. We should also consider where the equipment is manufactured and the environmental impact on shipping the equipment across vast distances. I believe that we should be promoting and installing green energy sources, but in a more environmentally friendly way, such as using the roof tops of current industrial buildings, using brown field sites as well as promoting wind farms out at sea.
