Constructing this solar farm alters the landscape in both practical and aesthetic ways. The land will no longer be able to be used for anything but the generation of power and local wildlife habitats will be altered in a negative way. Weather conditions over the last few years have been fairly catastrophic for our area with substantial flooding in all our villages. Having solar panels will increase the amount of floodwater in our area. To generate 1 megawatt, a solar farm needs 2.5 acres of land. This means acres and acres of agricultural land will be used for solar panels instead of growing valuable crops. As 80% of food is imported into the UK surely more land should be given over to the growing of crops rather than having less land, especially in an area as fertile as South Kesteven. Although I agree with the need for renewable energy this is the wrong site for such a development whereas industrial or post industrial land would be much more fitting for renewable energy developments.
