I fear for Britains food security and food miles. Farmland is in short supply. It is my opinion that Solar panels should be on a roof not a field. Taking away farmland will mean that more food will be imported and most transport uses fossil fuel. The impact on the natural environment and the loss of prime farmland far outweighs the benefit of solar energy. I wish to eat British grown produce. We also need land for growing crops for vegetable oil if we wish to make oil fired boilers use green fuel. Not every property is suitable for heat pump and vegetable oil boilers will need to be in the mix if we are to become carbon neutral. Taking away farmland will have a detrimental effect and reduce our oil independence. Please put solar panels on roofs not fields. There are plenty of bare roofs. We need fields for food and green oil. Our farmers should be supported to use the land for this purpose.
