Firstly I would say that I am and always have been concerned about our environment and so looking to cleaner energy is important, however, this shouldn’t be achieved at the expense of the environment. In particular essentially building on productive green field land which helps us be self sufficient and reduce food miles and risk wildlife and the ecosystems. Solar farms of this scale are obscene - they are an eye saw for residents and visitors and a blot on the landscape. This appears a knee jerk reaction without the evidence to back up that solar on this scale is the answer. There are electrical power lines and in between those it would seem more sensible to look at placing wind turbines as it would have less impact on the level of land required and environment. Solar panels could be placed on car park roofs, factory roofs etc which would be more better - whilst this may be more expensive this would mean that the environment wouldn’t be damaged by what is supposed to be an environmentally friendly option.
