Objections to Mallard Solar Farm This farmland should not be used for such purpose removing it from its present agricultual use for the following reasons: 1. Food security More than ever since the Ukraine War has this issue come into focus. The U.K. needs to grow more food and we need to grow it with less fertilisers. The cost of fertilisers has increased and producers will have to accept decreased yields per acre. Therefore acreage need to be kept at the very least constant not reduced. This loss is incremental by the need for housing, industry and transport, it is not an infinite resource. 2. Cost The cost both economic and moral of importing these panels from China, a totalitarian regime, which we should take every effort to reduce trading with. 3. Output The varied output of these panels from season to season and from day to day within the season. I have first hand experience of this cyclical output from my own panels. 4. Amenity Loss of a amenity to the local residents. As a population we need to see and enjoy open spaces. 5. Alternatives There are other means of producing low carbon energy consistently, giving highly qualified and long term employment to the country using the Small Modular Reactors. This uses existing standard nuclear technology and could be deployed on brown field sites. This creates an opportunity for Britain to be at the forefront of a solution as opposed to picking up old technology. 6. Financial Who is really going to profit from this solar farm? Private equity companies? Offshore infrastructure funds paying little or no tax to the Treasury. Mrs Phyllis Dentith
