My name is Prof Mike Alder. I am Professor(Emeritus) in Rural Environment at Essex University. My specialisms include land use, soil science and agriculture. I am currently Vice Chair of the Solar Campaign Alliance (previously Chair) . I am pro renewable energy and that includes solar but in the right place. I am concerned about the scale of the Gate Burton proposals and the cumulative effects of these combined with the many other solar schemes in the pipeline both as NSIPs and schemes going through LPAs. The farm land loss will be considerable and I believe this will impact on UK food security. In addition I have concerns that relate to biodiversity and landscape. I will make a more detailed WR at the main examination stage.
