In the interests of national food security it seems madness to use good farmland for projects such as solar energy. There are unproductive areas, roofs, brownfield sites etc which could (and should) be used. We need to eat more than we need energy (important though it is), so to use a vital and irreplaceable resource as proposed seems to me to be the height of folly. As if the lessons of two world wars were not enough, the current war in Ukraine should teach us that to rely on food imports is foolish to say the least.
