It is very disappointing that it is deemed necessary to remove productive arable farm land from the food and energy chain when the resources could surely be used to offer solar panels on rent free roofs on houses, agricultural and industrial buildings, shops etc etc. This would provide a free site for the solar panels without removing land from its current farming use. Once the solar panels are sited, the soil structure is compacted and often ruined, the grass around them is hard to manage and graze and quite frankly they are an eyesore. The excessive rents are being offered to entice large land owners, who very often are not the smaller tenant farms who are farming and making a living off of the land. It all just seems very poor and blinkered advice.
