The Stonehenge WHS is of international significance and extends out into the landscape, not just the main Henge. A tunnel under this landscape will destroy undiscovered archeology. It will cause light pollution that will interfere with observances at Stonehenge itself. Increased traffic noise, vibrations and emissions from the Tunnel will also impact the WHS adversely. Highways England has already damaged important finds at Blick Mead, drilling through a platform of Aurochs footprints. How can they be trusted with safeguarding anything within the WHS? Why haven't other ideas, such as the rerouting of the A303 out of the WHS altogether, been considered as part of the consultation process? It seems HE is determined to pick the most dangerous, disruptive and destructive route it can. Stonehenge and its surrounds are irreplacable. Roads and tunnels can be moved or rebuilt. Stonehenge cannot.
