I object to the current plan for the A303 around Stonehenge because: (1) It is not far enough away from the extensive site to not cause irrepairable damage to the site itself, the other areas such as burial sites, barrows and ancient pathways and wildlife. (2) It is quite possible for the road to be built without causing so much damage by moving it to the north above the RAF base. (3) The proposed tunnel isn't long enough and it's current proposed route will cause irrepairable damage to some of the most important sites associated with the stones. (4) if the route of the road is moved there may be no need for a long and expensive tunnel.
I object to the proposed road because:
- It will damage metholithic sites not open to the public
- Stonehenge itself will no longer be seen from the road
- The World Heritage Site will be forever damaged
- Not sufficient time and thought has been made about an alternative. For example, a new road could be positioned above the army/airforce base away from the stones.
