Stonehenge is a site of huge importance. Not only to the history of the UK but also to that of the world. This cannot be overstated. The key importance in this is the word "site." It is not simply the stones that make up the globally recognised picture of the circle. It is a complex that spans and was developed over thousands of years of history. It would not only be an act of massive vandalism in the present but one which would rob future generations both actually and potentially. It is no exaggeration to compare it to the recent destruction wrought upon various ancient sites by so-called Islamic State extremists.
