The current scheme aims to save money by having a relatively short tunnel. This will result in a dual carriageway road, including a major junction, being built within the World Heritage site. Unesco has indicated that this is unacceptable. The prehistoric landscape of this part of Salisbury Plain should be restored to a pristine condition for the public to enjoy and archaeologists to explore, by putting the road in tunnel throughout.
