A monument that has been there for thousands of years and, one hopes, will continue to be there for further thousands of years should not be damaged in any way by the actions of this generation of transient administrators.
You will be familiar with the arguments against the proposals. Rather than repeat them I would just point out that they are put forward by people and groups of great integrity who know what they are talking about.
