I am deeply concerned about the plans for Stonehenge and its surroundings, which seem to me to be a wanton act of vandalism.

This is quite possibly the most important archaeological site not just in Britain, but the world, and which has been described by UNESCO as a 'landscape without parallel'.

The scheme as it is currently planned will do irreparable damage, and has indeed already damaged Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting, perhaps beyond repair.

I fully support UNESCO's representations that this scheme should not proceed in its current form. It is not too late to look again and come up with better solutions to this problem.

Should you decide to go ahead and all the damage we have forecast comes to pass, you will not be forgiven, by this generation and generations to come, not just of Britons, but by the citizens of the world, for the wanton vandalism you seem to be intent upon inflicting on one of the planets most archaeologically, historically, and culturally important World Heritage Site.
