I am very concerned about the impact on Stonehenge and the surrounding area. I believe that the proposal has only gained this much credibility amongst certain parties because viable alternatives have not been sought. The damage to this World Heritage Site would be permanent and it is paramount to remember that UNESCO called Stonehenge a ‘landscape without parallel’. And Stonehenge belongs to all of us, it is part of the UK's shared history and so should be preserved for all of us, including future generations. And there is so much more to be discovered. Such new knowledge is invaluable and the setting of such a unique site needs to be honoured. Nobody has the right to damage or destroy it. And this is to say nothing about the destruction of habitat of endangered wildlife, such as the Stone Curlew and Great Bustard. It is hardly wildly revelatory to state that the destruction of wildlife habitat is a world wide phenomenon and this should not be added to for the sake of a tunnel. Seek other alternatives, but ones that are not so archaeologically or environmentally destructive.
