The proposed A303 road scheme will cause irreversible damage to the archaeology and wider setting of the World Heritage Site (WHS). UNESCO, which has described the landscape as without parallel, and a host of leading experts in the field of archaeology, have advised against this scheme going ahead. Whilst I appreciate that preservation/conservation has to be balanced against economics (not only the cost of the scheme, but in terms of the national economy), given the importance of the WHS Highways England have failed to make this case.
