At a time in our history of man-made environmental and societal crisis, confusion and destruction, Stonehenge is a powerful national institution representing human achievement and co-operation in a natural landscape which has been free to see since it was built.
The proposed scheme would damage the site, destroy the inspiring view from the road and necessitate payment to view the Stones.
UNESCO’s international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form Rare bird species (Stone Curlew and Great Bustard) will be disturbed. It would be a cultural, environmental and symbolic national disaster.
