The proposal which has now been accepted, does not

(a) protect the World Heritage Site, its archaeology or settings

(b) take into account the objections of the UNESO advisers

(c) consider the concerns about the Blick Mead mesolithic site and settings

(d) take into account the alternative proposals for preserving the sites

(e) ignores the problems of protecting rare birds.

Stonehenge is a national monument to British History, and therefore should be left alone. UNESCO and World Heritage Communities have all stated, categorically, that Stonehenge, and its surroundings, are too important to be ignored. The proposed tunnel is much too short, and there are alternatives which must be utilised instead. If you go ahead with the government proposals, or the highway proposals, a valuable historical site will be destroyed forever, along with endangered wildlife. Future generations will thus be denied a part of history which is theirs by right, not yours to destroy.

Yours in hope Anne Wareing
