I believe that the proposed changes to the A303 in the vicinity of the Stone Henge site will irreparably damage an ancient historic site that is of global importance and as such is registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO who describe the area as “of unparalleled importance”. The proposals fail to provide protection for the whole site. The damage done to the ancient platform and footprints that lay beneath the platform prove that there is no reasonable way that the site can be protected while the works involved in the building of the proposed new layout for the A303 are carried out. The works and use of the road, if built, will have a disastrous impact, not just on the historical assets of the site, but also on the wildlife and the overall ecology of the area. For these reasons alone I believe the proposal should be dropped immediately.
