The proposed scheme would wreak incalculable damage on a highly valuable site, understood as such around the world but seemingly not in our own country. It would represent a catastrophically irresponsible failure to steward a unique feature of our heritage. The gains would be nugatory (even when translated into savings for businesses and private drivers), set against the losses - the destruction of a globally unmatched archaeological landscape accumulated over millennia.
