I object to the form and concept of the Stonehenge Tunnel. That is on the basis of extensive experience in infrastructure and as a qualified archaeologist.
The locale and setting of the monument have not been considered on a proper basis and the long-term future considered with competent overview.
Outline of Representation: -
- Effect on the historic, archaeological and sacred landscape of Wessex
- Effect on the archaeological and scared landscape of Southern England and therefore Western Europe
- Respect for World Heritage sites and landscape function in National Monuments
- Further erosion of the ability to resist damage to the above by government
- Further erosion of the value of statutory planning and archaeological supervision to protect the above.
- The entrenching of incompetence at Historic England, English Heritage and the National Trust.
- The need for statutory function to respect popular appreciation of the above.
