I have known Stonehenge for most of my life. The thought that I would lose the sight of it as I drive past is distressing, and the thought that I would have to pay to see it is worse. Our history is not there to make money.

The damage that could and will be done by this scheme to one of the richest ancient landscapes in the world is horrendous. This World Heritage Site is unique because this location has been 'special' to many generations - a continuous history of millennia from Mesolithic times onwards rarely if ever seen elsewhere. There is so much more to be discovered and understood that could be obliterated.

From the start, the scheme to tunnel under Stonehenge has been badly planned and expert opinions (from such as UNESCO) ignored, as have suggested alternative schemes. A site as precious as the newly discovered Blick Mead should have no disruptive work carried on anywhere near it yet the site has already been damaged by exploratory drilling.

That in itself should make it clear that no roadwork should be carried out within the WHS. Tunnel entrances should be well outside the site. If that makes the scheme too expensive, then no tunnel should be built. Our ancient heritage is worth more than someone's profit and loss.
