Irreparable damage to Stonehenge & it's surrounding area, risking the unique archaeology treasures instead of preserving them for the generations to come UNESCO’s international advisers do not support the present plans for such a sensitive site, including the Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting This is a World Heritage Site that is valuable beyond anything as temporary as money or numbers of tourists. It needs to be properly protected & any major changes to the surrounding roads & tourist areas need to be very carefully considered. One of the most valuable aspect of the site as it is, is that you can view Stonehenge from the road & do not have to pay just to see it. It is already not visible from the other side via public roads. In 1918 "Chubb didn't forget his roots when he gave Stonehenge away. His deed of gift stipulated the public should NOT pay "a sum exceeding one shilling" per visit. A separate agreement with the parish council said local people should get in for nothing." This is not being honoured at the moment & should be taken into consideration. Threats to various rare bird species (Stone Curlew and Great Bustard) by disturbing their natural habitat should be considered. Increased traffic will bring with it more problems for the area. If anything - traffic not interested in Stonehenge should be encouraged to take a different route.
