The current scheme threatens to destroy as yet undiscovered sites inside the Stonehenge UNESCO WHS area, as well as damaging already known but not fully investigated sites like Blick Mead. Moreover, the proposed tunnel entrances will create terrible gashes in the historic landscape. The scheme is opposed by most archaeologists in this country as well as by UNESCO, and is a startling and depressing example of proposed vandalism by a government agency which must not be allowed to go ahead.
