Stonehenge is an immensely important archeological site, acknowledged as being the most important in Europe. In my opinion to even consider a shortcut for traffic to be a viable reason for risking disturbance of the stones is nothing short of cretinous. Any future archelogiical digs in the vicinity would be worthless as the required construction work would destroy so much important evidence. We cannot allow such an important part of our heritage to be put at risk.
