When I was a child I was taken to Stonehenge and we walked freely among the stones. Since then I have been disappointed to find it all fenced off and we had to pay to cross the road and visit the stones, although I appreciate that there are now many more people with cars so much more care needs to be taken to protect this precious site and the adjacent ancient areas.
It is inconceivable that, (for, presumably, the sake of money soon forgotten), much of the ancient history could be destroyed because a tunnel was not made long enough.
