I whole heartedly object to the proposed road scheme at Stonehenge. It is for perceived short term gain but at the permanent loss of ancient surroundings eg Blick Mead. The duelling, tunnels and flyovers are totally out of keeping with the ancient landscape. A landscape that is utterly unique and every step should be being taken to preserve it … in its entirety: Stonehenge and its surrounding areas are just to precious to tarmac over. As someone who is old enough to have walked freely around the precious stones as a child; and to have delighted visitors to this country with a surprise ‘drive by’ viewing, it was distressing to have read about the damage that already has been inflicted by the Highways Agency’s excavations….. and for what? - to check out a water table which won’t be stable if the plans go ahead?! Equally distressing, that his proposal seems to be a ‘choice of 1’. Surely there must be other viable options that would not cause such damage to this globally recognised World Heritage Site? Other options that will not disturbed the archeologically valuable site, which is still being investigated? Other options that won’t disturb the wildlife? Other options that won’t destroy the relative peace, joy and wonder of this amazing geographic area of ancient history which we are privileged to share today? I urge you to withdraw these plans and find an alternative solution.

Thank you.
