This is an internationally recognised area of major historical and archealogical significance. It enhances national prestige and brings increasing tourism revenues. The proposals treat this area as if it's a rather inconvenient parking lot that the highways authority would rather concrete over. These proposals threaten damage to monuments. It spoils the environment and ambience for tourists who far from being valued are treated to a second rate experience of this amazing site. With new technology we are finding more and more evidence of the widespread importance of this area and it's wider environs to our ancestors and it is clear that there are many more important sites awaiting rediscovery and assessment. Building as proposed may destroy important historical information directly significant to the full knowledge of the site, which will be lost forever. Everything about this wretched development smacks of a pennypinching cheap compromise that pays only grudging importance to a site millions of us are understandably interested and proud of. It makes us look cheap and uncultured on a world stage. Any proposal that would make this site pay to view is also pretty offensive when it's my/our national heritage. Where is our sense of pride, our respect for our past or our standing on a global stage. And where is any sense of invention, ambition or national pride displayed. Shoddy and ruinous.
