As a user of the A303 and a respecter of history, I urge the government to fund a LONG, low tunnel between Countess Roundabout (at ground level) and far west of Longbarrow roundabout so that none of the development impinges on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is absolutely no need for drivers to see the Stones (as things stand, a view of Stonehenge view is only incidental to driving on the A303). In addition there must be NO USE OF STREET LIGHTING anywhere along the approach roads to the tunnel portals. I also suggest the speed limit in the tunnels be restricted to 50 mph in the interests of safety; this would also bring the cost down, on the grounds that engineering for 50 costs less than for national limits.
