I am very unhappy about the application for changes to the Stonehenge roadways, for a number of reasons:

  • I believe that this will destroy areas of this important achaeological setting in ways that we cannot yet know, as we have still to discover so much about this incredible and unique historical site.
  • I don't feel that possible alternatives have been considered, and it may well be that we could solve a lot of the current issues without damaging such an important site.
  • If the road is taken underground then the public will no longer have a view of this beautiful site from a distance, but only by paying to visit the stones in close proximity. This will be a major and very sad loss.
  • There are many rare bird species in this area that will be disturbed with such an enormous project. It is a beautiful natural location that will never be the same again after such an intrusion.
  • The finalised project will result in faster traffic and probably heavier volumes. Noise and environmental pollution will be the inevitable result. In conclusion I personally feel that it should be unthinkable that our modern day convenience should impinge so hugely and negatively on such a special and historic environment.
