In my view the proposed scheme will irreparably damage not just the area presently designated as a World Heritage Site, but the wider environment that is part of the essential context of the Stonehenge site. The existing proposal ignores UNESCO's advisors, who are opposed to it. It could be argued, with some justification, that the status quo should be allowed to continue. However, in my view, if any road works are to be undertaken, a much longer and deeper tunnel is needed.
