I strongly object to any tunnel with entrances or exits that are constructed within the boundaries of the World Heritage Site. I strongly object to the construction of any related roads or service roads within the boundaries of the world heritage site. Stonehenge and the Stonehenge Landscape is a unique and internationally important heritage and archaeological resource that should be preserved in its entirety. The landscape has been important since the Mesolithic period and provides inestimable heritage value that should be protected at all costs for future generations. A landscape that represents some 8000 years of human culture should not be compromised. The UK has an enviable reputations for heritage conservation. The proposed solutions adversely affect this reputation and hence have international implications for heritage conservation. The additional cost of a long option tunnel, taking entrance and exit portals outside the WHS, will be forgotten in 50 years. The current proposals irreparably damage the WHS for the next 8000 years and beyond.
