The proposed A303 Stonehenge development would cause irreparable damage to the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, its archeology and setting, described by UNESCO as a “landscape without parallel”. There is woeful lack of alternative options in the consultation that could help either mitigate or completely avoid damage to the World Heritage Site UNESCO’s international advisors say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form. This site is unique in the world. It is precious and fragile and houses thousands of years of human history and heritage not found anywhere else, and NOT just on the surface but underground too. A vast road tunnel would destroy much of this. Finally, and this will mean very little to you, it is a sacred place which should be protected and left undisturbed. It represents a vast period in human history when humans were actually living in harmony with their natural surroundings and actually considered them sacred. That will of course seem laughable to you and the current governmental appetite for growth, profit, development and dominance above all else, but surely all citizens living now have the right to experience a glimpse of how humans used to exist: in harmony with and in deference to nature rather than our modern predilection to bulldoze through everything?
