This scheme will cause Irreparable damage to the WHS, its archaeology and setting, described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’. Points that are of huge relevance and seem not to have been taken seriously into account by the planners include, inter alia, • Irreparable damage to the WHS, its archaeology and setting, described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’ • UNESCO’s international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form • There are concerns about damage to Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting • The consultation lacked alternative options that would not damage the World Heritage Site • Loss of the view from the road (one of the best stretches of the current A303!) and need to pay to see the Stones in future will upset many people. • Disturbance of rare bird species (Stone Curlew and Great Bustard) • Increased noise from faster traffic The plans as presented visually confirm the destruction of a precious and unique landscape whose secrets are only just beginning to be revealed. The loss to future generations will be irreparable and should not be ignored.
