I am deeply concerned that the planned tunnel is likely to cause irreparable damage to the WHS, its archeology and setting, described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’. Any tunnelling or major excavation within the WHS will be highly likely to disturb the archeology, both known and unknown. New sites have been discovered in the wider landscape in recent years and it is probable that there are further undiscovered sites of archeological importance, that can add to our understanding of this unique environment. I also have concerns about the impact ofthe proposals on Avebury and Blick Mead Mesolithic site.

UNESCO’s international advisors say that this svheme should not go in its current form, yet the consultation appears to lack alternative options that avoid the potential damage to this WHS.
