These plans will cause irreparable damage to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, its archaeology and setting. UNESCO has described the area as a ‘landscape without parallel’ and their international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form. Other options, that would not damage the World Heritage Site, have not been presented in the consultation. In my view, this plan springs from a very short-term perspective, with no thought of the span of history and how foolish such wanton damage of our heritage will appear in the eyes of future generations.
