So often we are left mourning that a species has become extinct, that we have ruined some environmental aspect of our planet, damaged a historical building beyond repair. In between is prehistory; our only access to it is via archaeology. Wilful destruction of a site with known prehistory is an offence against human knowledge.

Technological advances will mean that cars and roads and modes of travel will change. Easily predictable is that electric cars will mean that where the road is now will be silent and pollution free. Who knows what developments are just beyond the horizon.
