I object to the A303 expressway through the Stonehenge WHS for several reasons. The Stonehenge WHS, including its famous archaeology, described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’, will be irreparable damaged by the expressway. The scheme for the building of the expressway has been opposed by UNESCO’s international advisers. As well as increased noise pollution from faster traveling traffic, the expressway will also mean the loss of the view from the road and, consequently, the need to pay to see the Stones in future. I am also concerned about potential damage to Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting, as well the potential for the disturbance of rare bird species (e.g., Stone Curlew and Great Bustard). Finally, I note the lack of alternative options in consultation that would provide options that do not damage the World Heritage Site.
