My primary concern is that any new road scheme preserves the historic passing views of Stonehenge, enjoyed by travellers since records began. Any removal of these historic views, open to any member of the public passing by, for any reason, will be denying the public access to free sight of the stones, creating a monopoly for English Heritage by the exclusion of the very people who fund them. This is undemocratic, a questionable business exercise and, makes an arbitrary decision about how the monument should be experienced in its landscape. While roads clearly were not a component of the original complex the existing route is a valid part of the complex history of the site.
