I object on the grounds that the current plan is at fault in these aspects: Despoliation of, and incursion of increased noise and vibration into, what is essentially a sacred space, whether the authorities recognise this or not under current legislation. It is an arrogation of a decision that is based on current cultural perspectives, taking away choice from future generations. There is an extraordinary arrogance in riding roughshod over the mystery of its origins and the purposes of the build. Ignorance of its purpose and true meaning doesn't mean we can override it with a current soulless, business-driven perspective. Indeed, we are not entitled to do so. Total lack of sensitivity to any other consideration than a financial one in the treatment of a World Heritage Site. Ignoring or dismissing UNESCO's authoritative objection. Lack of serious consideration or investigation of alternative schemes that would not damage the site. Lack of concern for the impact on Blick Mead Mesolithic Site, and its archaeology. Loss of a free view from the road; requiring payment to visit. Changing the balance and magnificence in this exceptional historical landscape. Archaeological damage to the whole World Heritage Site. Disruption to rare birds breeding, feeding and conservation.
